Software Defined Defense

is a paradigm, which aims to bring the agility and flexibility of software to improve the speed of evolving, adapting and deploying defense capabilities. A prerequisite for this is to separate defense capabilities into (HW-) platform and (SW-) infrastructure. The latter provides open APIs to access the platform’s functions and are used by software applications to implement a respective mission specific capability. By this, defense capability deployment will benefit from the speed of development, integration, test and deployment (CI/CD) which is state-of-the art in software driven industries like automation, automotive or telecommunications. Auterion is bringing this paradigm to autonomous robotic systems by providing a platform with open APIs which allows software applications to plan, control evaluate and (re-)task platform and payload behavior of an UxV.  This creates the foundation for an open ecosystem where mission specific adaptation is possible through selecting the right platform and payloads and combining them with mission applications to allow for fast and flexible feature deployment.
