Extreme weather events are increasingly disrupting logistics along global supply routes. The previously reliable delivery times, upon which just-in-time production was based, are dwindling. A rethink in strategic procurement processes is increasingly taking climate change along established trade routes into account.

We would like to discuss with you what this means for managing a more resilient supply chain in the future: Which aspects should be considered? Which adaptation measures are already working today? And who is taking responsibility? Our experts will share their experiences in a short panel discussion. Afterwards, we will actively involve the participants. Drinks and snacks will be served afterwards, as networking and exchange are our top priorities.

Why this issue is urgent

Today, an extreme weather event occurs every three weeks, causing over one billion US dollars in damage. Four decades ago, it happened every four months.
27 % of the freight shippers in the perishables sector were recently affected by low water levels on the Rhine, 35% by the drought at the Panama Canal.
Over 99% of the surveyed executives say that their supply chain is affected by climate change.
There is a strong causal link between heat and accident risk. The risk of workplace accidents increases even at a heat index of approximately 27°C. Above 32°C, the risk rises significantly. Researchers estimate that around 28,000 additional workplace accidents are attributable to heat each year, often without being classified as heat-related. These include, for example, falls, machine operator errors, and other accidents resulting from reduced concentration and performance.
